Pink and Purple Monster
There was a pink and purple Monster living behind our old house (circa Jess age 0-3). He was very shy around mommies but Jessie visited him daily, brought him food and took visiting friends out back to meet him. Usually her interactions went pleasantly enough but occasionally she would run from behind the house shouting "Monster scare me!"and would dive into my arms for a hug. After the hug she'd ask me to go with her and when we get to the spot where monster lives she'd look at me and say "It OK mommy, Monster sleeping now." and we would walk back from behind the house and carry on with what ever else we were doing.
Monster's house was right outside Jessie's window so he occasionally came into Jessie's room which surprised Jessie from time to time. "Monster in there! Tell him go home!" or "Monster in my room. He sleeping in Jessie's bed."
The topper for me was when Jessie came to me and said, "Mom may I please a band aid?" Why Jessie do you have a boo boo? "No I just need be ready!" Ready for what Jessie? "I go my monster's house and he have rocks there." Indeed there were rocks in Monster's house but he had never thrown them before or otherwise did damage. Thankfully the band aid I provided went unused and what ever dangerous thing s Monster had planned went unrealized.
Jessie was generally delighted with her friend the Monster but was occasionally worried he might not be nice to others. She would sometimes come back from behind the house apologizing to her friends, "Sorry Alexa Monster Grouchy today." but I have to admit her friends were usually unfazed by Monster's bad behavior. He was a Monster after all so I guess we should have been more concerned particularly when she told Daddy, "I sorry you scared daddy. Don't worry I keep you safe." but I kind of liked the idea that he was back there. All in all Monster was a pretty good neighbor.
So far the Pink and Purple Monster has not visited the new house. We've been back to the old house a couple of times since moving and Jessie still runs back to see him, usually bringing Alexa, who lives in the house in front of our old one. I just have to assume she has turned over the care and feeding of Monster to her and new Monster friends may or may not await us in our new home.
